The concert series “Closer to Bach” has become a traditional event in the cultural calendar of Pomerania. In promotion of Gdańsk as the organ capital of Northern Poland, the Tuesday evening concerts, which are held every week in May in St. Nicholas Church, feature music of the highest quality performed by professional artists in a unique atmosphere.
In addition to compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach, this season’s program will include works of other composers from the Renaissance, through and Baroque and as late as the second half of the nineteenth century. All will take full advantage of the extraordinary opportunities afforded by the historical instrument, which only narrowly escaped destruction during the Second World War.
Realized thanks to the funding by the City of Gdańsk, the concerts are presented under the patronage of its Mayor, Paweł Adamowicz, and are free of admission charge.
