KorevaarpartitascropPianist David Korevaar will celebrate the release of his recent MSR Classics recording of Bach’s Clavier-Übung I (BWV 825-30) at a performance at 7:30pm on 15 January 2013 at Grusin Music Hall at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Korevaar says, “In recording the Partitas, I have sought the freedom of live performance. The recording sessions were an opportunity to produce multiple versions of the individual movements, experimenting with embellishments, pacing, and the subtleties of rhythmic treatment that bring these dance-inspired pieces to life. I wanted the result to feel spontaneous – a snapshot of the moment of performance, rather than the definitive last word.”

Korevaar’s program will include Bach’s Partitas in B flat Major and C minor (BWV 825-6) as well as works by Brahms and Franck that illustrate Bach’s influence on the Romantic repertory. Brahms’s Paganini Variations are written in a style that combines the academic precision and controlled gestures of Bach’s Goldberg Variations (BWV 988) with a thorough grounding in Romantic piano technique. Franck’s Prelude, Chorale and Fugue presents a synthesis of Bachian form in the chromatic musical language of the late nineteenth century.

Because of the popularity of the Faculty Tuesdays series and limited seating, this event will be broadcast live online at http://music.colorado.edu/live.
