The Electric Recording Company is on a mission to reproduce “golden era” classical vinyl recordings of the purest possible quality from the original EMI master tapes. Pete Hutchison and Sean Davies have tracked down and painstakingly refurbished vintage mastering and cutting equipment, including enormous 1950s valve-driven lathe cutters, in an effort to recall a pre-digital era when “records were handmade artifacts crafted by artisans.”

Among the first of these “new vintage” issues is a three-volume set of Bach’s solo violin Sonatas and Partitas (BWV 1001-6), originally recorded in 1954 by the Hungarian violinist Johanna Martzy, produced in a limited run of three hundred.
