A student directory of the St. Thomas School, which was thought to have been lost, has been rediscovered in Leipzig by Bach-Archiv researcher Dr. Michael Maul. Containing a short résumé of each of the 650 alumni admitted to the famous Latin School between the years of 1729 and 1800, the Album Alumnorum Thomanorum becomes our most important source of biographical information about Bach’s choirs and sheds new light on the dating of his compositions.
