Pianist András Schiff will perform selected three-part inventions from Bach’s Sinfonias (BWV 787-801) on 27 February 2012 at 7:30pm at Macky Auditorium on the Boulder campus of the Unversity of Colorado. The program will also include works by Beethoven and Bartók.
Originally written by Bach as exercises for his students, the autograph of the Sinfonias promises “straightforward instruction by which amateurs of the keyboard are shown a clear way . . . to dealing correctly and satisfactorily with three obbligato parts; and along with this not only to obtain good inventions [ideas], but . . . arriving at a cantabile manner in playing, all the while acquiring a strong foretaste of composition.”
